Dear friends,
Thank you for your interest in our Relay Team. We are Rotarians and we are partnered with the Rotary sponsored Scouts, Troup 207. They also represent larger group of Cub Scout Pack 207 and the Girl Scouts of Highlands.
First, let me spell out the obligation of a "team member". We have all pledged to collect money for The American Cancer Society, as much as we can but with a minimum obligation of $100. We all start by putting in $10 to cover the cost of our "Relay" shirt. This shirt is a prized item to me!
We try to get people to honor those they know who have, who have had, or have lost their lives to this disease by purchasing 'LUMINARIES". For those of you who have never attended, these luminary bags with the names of our friends and loved ones on them line the path we walk on through the night. It is a moving sight. Each bag is $10.
After the opening ceremonies, the "Survivors Walk', another VERY touching moment, our team will try to have someone on the track for the remainder of the event which ends the following morning. We Would like as many of you as possible to walk, but if you are not available, or not able to do this, we still want you as a member of our team.
Mike and the Scouts will be cooking, and we will be assisting them. Any of you who wish to volunteer to help, contact me, Robert E., or Mike Murphy.
That's it, that's all there is to it. Now let’s get to work!
You can register on line by going to www.relayforlife.org/mountaintop. Go to "Join Team" and enter "Rotary Cloudwalkers & Troup 207" or "Highlands Scouts". You can register for the Team, pay for your T-shirt, make contributions, etc.
Help us make this the most success relay ever. Let's honor those stricken and in the battle, those who have won, and this who have lost. Let's put some money into research, education and support.
Rick

Rotary Club of Highlands Home Delivered Meals
by Jodie Cook
Rotary's motto going back to the 1950's has been, "Service Above Self." Meals on Wheels, known in Macon County as Home Delivered Meals, provides a midday meal to people, who can't prepare a nutritious meal for themselves, generally due to health or age related medical issues.
Meals volunteers from Rotary have included Tony and Isabel Chambers, Pat Moore, Rick Siegel, Luther Turner, Buck Trott and David Rohrer. Rotarian spouses Caroline Cook and Mary Berry have been long time volunteers. Deliveries have been augmented by Rotarians Dave Jellison and Selwyn Chalker who work at the Rec Park and occasionally have filled-in during their lunch hour when the weather was extremely inclement or a last minute problem arose. Volunteers say the hot midday meal is only part of what Meals is about. They may be the only person their client sees and talks with. Volunteers also check and look to see that their client is okay. This is always a point of concern for the volunteers. Beginning with a smile and a warm meal clients and volunteers often become good friends. The Rotary Club of Highlands has seen many of its members and spouses of members participate in Meals to the extent that Rotary gives meeting attendance credit to Rotarians when they deliver.
